Return of the all conquering heroes
What with the chaos caused by volcanic ash clouds, our first guests of the 2010 season didn't arrive until the 1st of May. All conquering heroes Peter Knie and Kevin Butler enjoyed their previous visit so much that they decided to have another crack at the lake in the spring to see how the lake would fish following the major snag clearing work undertaken during the previous closed season.
The weather was the first thing they had to battle though with an unseasonable cold snap, accompanied by heavy rain making life difficult for the first couple of days. Fortunately, the rain clouds cleared for the second part of their trip and with a haul of 45 fish between them Pete and Kev felt sunny enough about their second carp fishing holiday at Forest Lake Carp Fishing.
According to Pete the tactics were pretty simple. "I fished mainly on the dam margin in the deepest water using Dynamite Banana and Tiger Nut and Nutrabaits Trigga readymades over pellet. The more bait fished over, the better the result. Rigs were 3 ounce inline semi-fixed leads with a 6-inch Snake Bite hooklink. All lines were backleaded to prevent tangles when playing fish."
And as for the snags that had hampered them the previous year? "We didn't get snagged once," said a beaming Pete. "You can fish right under the trees now without any problems at all."
You can see a selection of Pete and Kev's catches in their photo gallery. Find out what the lads thought of their second stay by clicking here.
