New lake record! 85lb 7oz catfish!
Luckily they arrived one day after April Fool's day, otherwise Darren Lalley's mates might have thought he was playing an elaborate trick on April 2nd when his single worm hook bait managed to snag the new lake record: an 85lb catfish. But the proof of the scales and this impressive photo cannot be denied.
This proved to be just the start of the fun. Experienced anglers David Roberts and Darren Lalley were introducing friends Chris Bateman and Gary Sanders to the noble sport, but no-one expected all four to land personal bests. Darren had his monster catfish, while David nudged just past his personal best by netting a 25lb 7oz carp. He was closely followed by novice Chris Bateman who tussled a 25lb mirror to the bank while Gary grimaced his way to a 18.5lb carp (and looked horrified when asked to pick up his fish for a photo!)
